An Act of Grace
But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also. -2 Corinthians 8:7
With the goal of transitioning our Sunday 5pm Gatherings to a Sunday Morning Gathering, we are praying that we would move in generosity and increase our giving to an extra $3,000 per month in order to move into another church location that would facilitate a Sunday morning Gathering. This is a giving increase of about $100 per member.
We envision having a space that would let our neighbors know that a church all about God’s mission meets there on Sunday mornings.
As we establish a gospel presence in Spring Branch, we are excited about the progress over the last 10 months that has taken place with 3 strong parishes and the joy of baptizing a few people, but we see the need for a Sunday Morning Gathering. Switching our 5pm Sunday Gathering to a Sunday Morning Gathering would allow for our immediate neighbors, who are used to seeing people "go to church" on a Sunday morning, consider giving us a visit, and maybe becoming part of this new church in the neighborhood. A space would allow our neighbors that we don’t know yet to know that there is a church that meets in a particular space of our neighborhood.
For the 120,000 people who call Spring Branch home with many of them moving into the area, it would be advantageous for our church to have a space of our own.
Our mission is to make disciples, multiply parishes, and plant churches. As Covenant Members, we are all responsible for realizing this.
One of the ways that we are able to make disciples and multiply parishes so we can plant more churches is having a space of our own; a space where we can gather on Sunday mornings, every first Monday of the month for prayer, every time we have a Membership Class and every week as we train people in our Sojourn Academy that we are starting soon.
It is time to share our hope of the gospel with people in our community that would come to a church gathering on a Sunday morning.
Sojourn Spring Branch needs more income to realize this vision ($3,000 per month), but that isn’t the only reason we are asking for your generosity. As one of our Sojourn churches puts it, "The majority of us have the financial capacity to be more generous. God calls us to steward His money, which means we must pray and consider what sacrificial giving and holistic stewardship looks like. If you haven’t given yet, you will always be a non-giver until you start. There is never a strategic time to start giving; giving is always a step in obedience, trust and faith that what God says about money is true. As we pray, if we aren’t giving well, we believe the Holy Spirit will graciously convict us to actively consider what it means to invest in God’s kingdom through sacrificial giving.
We believe that generosity toward the local church is an investment in that kingdom. God continues to bring more people to Sojourn Spring Branch because He is including us in the story and work of His kingdom here. As stewards of what He has given us, we want to respond faithfully."
